Zyrx Sounds: DJ to Afrobeats Alchemist

A Sound Born of Rhythm, Lagos Streets, and Legacy

Meet Michael Omoniyi, professionally known as Zyrx Sounds — a genre-bending producer and DJ whose journey began in the vibrant chaos of Lagos, Nigeria. Born into a musical household, Zyrx inherited more than vinyls and soundboards. He inherited rhythm, intuition, and a vision for crafting Afrobeats soundscapes that echo across cultures.

From spinning at his father’s gigs as a preteen to producing records with top-tier talents like Ric Hassani, Mikun, Sickoboy, and Victor Collins, Zyrx’s story is one of rhythm, reinvention, and relentless creativity.

Hitting Play: The Origin Story of Zyrx Sounds

DJ First, Producer Always

Zyrx’s musical path began like a well-sequenced mixtape—building from smooth intros into heart-thumping basslines. Watching his father DJ, young Zyrx was mesmerized by turntables and tempos. By age 11, he was already handling sets and bookings, rocking parties with the confidence of a seasoned selector.

However, secondary school became his creative playground—one foot in the choir, the other in the booth. There, he met an artist friend who introduced him to FL Studio, a moment he now calls fate.

“It brought all my musical skills into one place,” he reflects. “From instruments to BPM tweaks—everything just clicked.”

Mixing Realities: From School Halls to Studio Walls

There was never a grand pivot from DJing to producing. For Zyrx, it was all music. Production simply gave him more canvas. With school commitments pulling him away from gigs, production became his creative sanctuary.

“Production allowed me to blend everything—from musical instruments to tempo manipulation—skills I’d picked up as a DJ.”

Inspiration, Not Imitation

Unlike stories with that one life-changing project, Zyrx's drive came from sonic giants who shaped his imagination. Think Dr. Dre, Sarz, Juls, GuiltyBeatz—creators who straddle performance and production with flair.

How DJing Refined His Producer’s Ear

Zyrx’s DJ background gave him a global ear. He blends genres like a chef with a world pantry—Afrobeats, funk, trap, highlife, hip-hop, you name it. His gift lies in sound fusion, sculpting beats that groove across continents.

The Creative Process: Structured Chaos

Zyrx doesn’t chase a linear workflow. Some days it’s melody before rhythm, other days the bassline leads the charge.

“My creativity can come from anything—what I heard, what I felt, what I lived.”

With a mastery of DAWs like FL Studio, Studio One, Logic, and Ableton, he builds symphonies from spontaneity. No moment is wasted—not even beat naming.

Naming the Beats?

“I name my beats based on moments. What I felt. Where I lived.”

It’s part memory capsule, part emotional timestamp—allowing each project to breathe its own story.

A Recent Example? Let’s Funk It Up

Take his viral beat for Teni’s freestyle—a nostalgic, funky homage to his childhood soundscape. It wasn’t just a beat. It was a sonic throwback to his father’s speaker-blasting sessions.

Creating Magic with Ric Hassani

When Dreams Become Collaborations

Once a fan singing “Thunder Fire You” in the school hostel, Zyrx now shares studio space with Ric Hassani. The journey from fandom to collaboration happened organically—through skill, consistency, and relationship-building.

“Ric knows what he wants. And when two sound geniuses enter a room—it’s bound to be magic.”

The Pulse of Afrobeats: Staying Rooted, Sounding Fresh

Zyrx is deeply immersed in Afrobeats, drawn to its rich layers, instrumental complexity, and fusion potential. Yet his versatility stretches—from trap to R&B, hip-hop to funk.

What makes his Afrobeats different? It’s the DJ’s ear, the instrumentalist’s finesse, and the producer’s fearless spirit—all rolled into one.

The Secret to Freshness?

“Staying updated. Listening to everything — old, new, strange, beautiful.”

Influences, Advice, and Audacious Dreams

From global icons like Pharrell, Dr. Dre, Metro Boomin to African legends like Don Jazzy, Tekno, London, Pheelz, Zyrx’s influences reflect both continents—and infinite possibilities.

And on his collaboration wishlist, he has Rema, Omah Lay, Lojay, Teni, Wizkid, Davido — and beyond.

What Zyrx Wants You to Feel

Music is more than sound. It's a sensation.

“I want people to feel connected. Whether it’s joy, love, relaxation, or rhythm—just feel something.”

What’s Next for Zyrx Sounds?

No gimmicks. No gimmicky rollout.

“Watch out for me—not just a project. Watch out for Zyrx. I’m becoming one of the next big DJ producers out of Africa.”

He’s not just shaping beats. He’s shaping the sound of a generation—with Lagos as his launchpad and the world as his audience.

Advice to Aspiring Producers?

“Stay curious. Explore genres. Build good relationships. Keep working.”
